Why the Daleks are the Doctors #1 Nemesis

There are countless villains in Doctor Who, so are why are Daleks the Doctor’s most known nemesis? I am glad you asked this question. The Doctor is the last living Time Lord alive. This brings us to the second possible origin of the Daleks. Do not get your hopes the story is pretty similar to the first one.

Just like the first story it starts off on planet Skaro. The Doctor was sent to the planet by the Time Lords to stop the Dalek race from ever being created. The Kaleds, which are a humanoid race that lived on the planet Skaro who resemble Nazis, were in a thousand-year long war with the Thals with technologies lesser than the nuclear warheads that were described before. However, instead of the Kaleds being mutated by the radiation from the war their leader, Davros, was mutating them. He was using special chemicals to speed up the mutations; his goal was to make sure the Kaleds would be capable of surviving not only the war but also all of eternity. Upon speeding up the mutations Davros placed the soon to be Daleks in Mark 3 machines that were based off his life support chair. The machines would become their outer casing. These travel machines were the creation of the Daleks. This is when the Doctor comes in. As said earlier he was sent by the Time Lords to destroy the Daleks before being created. Unfortunately he failed at this but the Doctor had a chance to wipe out the Daleks completely after this. The war between the Thals and Kaleds/Daleks continued at this point. The Thals were able to set up explosives around the lab that these Daleks were being created in. Fortunately the Doctor was not able to get himself to destroy the Daleks lab thus destroying the race forever. The Doctor could not commit genocide and therefore the Dalek race was born. However, later on the Doctor returned to the lab and destroyed it but it only set the Daleks back about a thousand years before they started reining terror.

Now that we have some background information about how the Doctor is partially responsible for the creation of the Daleks we can now look into why the Daleks are the Doctor’s number one nemesis. So there was a war called the Time War, it took place between the Daleks and the Time Lords. Both races were nearly killed to extinction. There were limited numbers of Daleks survived and as far we know only one Time Lord survived, the Doctor. So the Doctor feels responsible for the genocide of his people thus creating a hatred and rivalry against the Daleks. The Doctor is the last of his kind so he can get rather lonely sometimes which fuels his rage against the Daleks. It does not help that the Daleks are the most reoccurring villain in Doctor Who, no matter how well the Doctor does in defeating the Daleks they always seem to find a way to come back and cause more grief to the Doctor. Ecclestion, who was one of the Doctors, was known to raise his voice and go off on the Daleks. This showed us just how passionate the Doctor felt toward the Daleks. Even thought the Doctor is completely against genocide the Daleks might be the only acceptation into him accepting it.

It is obvious why the Daleks are the Doctors number one nemesis but people are made through living with adversity and the Doctor would not be the same without the Daleks to make the Doctor who he is today. We are lucky to have the Doctor make the mistake of letting the Daleks live and for the Time War to happen because without these things Doctor Who would not exist today.
